The Question:

I’m going to make sure I share this site with my daughter…we’re always arguing about nutrition…I need all the help I can get!

The Answer:

All right! Welcome back to another Stay Fueled Podcast! My name is Dr. Joshua Eldridge and I am excited to be here with you. I am the founder of Stay Fueled. We have a question today from Louise. And what Louise had to say was “I’m going to make sure I share this site with my daughter. We’re always arguing about nutrition. I need all the help I can get.”

Yeah, what a great point. And we kind of covered this a little bit in another podcast, but we’re going to go over just a little bit about how important it is for your young athlete to be experiencing great nutrition. But – there’s a but to this – because your athletes, especially your teenage athletes, they don’t think you know anything about nutrition. It’s just part of the way it is. But if you can help them see that it’s their idea, that nutrition is their idea, that they came up with this great information, then they’re going to be more likely to stick with it and just become great at nutrition and find out more about it, look into different resources.

And that’s what Stay Fueled wants to be there for your athlete, as a resource so that they can find out about great nutrition. Other things too; body image and just being great athletes. We want them to understand that this is a well-rounded issue. It’s not just one point. So we want to educate them on what’s going on with their bodies.

So the thing that I recommend most for this point is yeah, get your daughter over to the site and kind of help her see this. Maybe sit down together with her and watch the videos of our three-part series on recovery because one of the parts is very, very intense on nutrition; what we need to be having every day. And you can just say, “Hey! What did you think about what Dr. Josh had to say about eating throughout the day and eating for performance?”

That’s a great question that you can ask her. Get her thinking about performance and nutrition and how they’re intimately linked together because without proper nutrition, we’re not going to recover and we’re not going to have the energy that we need to be great athletes. It’s something that if they can understand that and they can make that their idea, they’re going to be so far ahead of all the other competitors out there, be able to give more and allow their bodies to be protected through nutrition.
